Sizing A Walking Stick

Sizing a walking stick is, in many ways, subjective; however, through years of experience, we have developed some basic parameters -- suggestions, really -- for choosing a correct walking stick size:
  • For small children and shorter adults, we generally recommend a 41-inch stick.
  • For people who are shorter than 5'4", we recommend a 48-inch stick.
  • For people who are between 5'4" and 5'11", we recommend a 55-inch stick.
  • For adults over 5'11", we recommend a 58-inch stick.
For walking canes, our standard 37-inch size is a good starting place for most adults. (For taller folks, we offer 40-inch canes as well.) Cane sizing is best achieved by standing up nice and straight, relaxing your arm naturally to the side, and having someone measure the distance from your wrist to the floor.

Again, let me reiterate, the sizing recommendations listed above are only suggestions.

Big Boy. Big Stick.

This is Andrew, one of our stick makers. He's 6'3" and somewhere this side of 300 pounds (I think). He just finished making a prodigious walking stick, a custom job for a customer who wanted something on the heftier side. The stick is 66-inches and about 1 3/4" thick -- it's quite the monster. So, without further ado, here's a photo of our very own Jolly Green Giant (Andrew) with his proud creation:
